First presented in 1973, the WA Citizen of the Year Awards has a rich history of acknowledging Western Australian high achievers across a range of different industries and categories.
In 2012 the awards were renamed The Western Australian of the Year Awards in recognition of their position as awarding the State’s highest honours and into 2013 they celebrate their 41st year.
Designed to represent the ‘best of the best’ the awards reflect the highest level of contribution made to Western Australia by those either born or bred in WA, or those who have chosen to call WA home.
The award categories include:
- Youth
- Business and Professions
- Community
- Arts and Culture
- Indigenous, and
- Sport

The Western Australian of the Year will be selected from the winners of the individual categories with the winner automatically submitted into the Australian of the Year.

Gala Presentation and Dinner
The Western Australian of the Year Awards Gala Presentation and Dinner will be held on Saturday 1 June 2013.
Well-known Western Australian entertainer and comedian, Rove McManus, will return home to be the MC for the night and the entertainment will feature both Western Australian and Australian artists.

Burswood Park Board is responsible for managing Burswood Park, which comprises of 110 hectares of C class reserve.
